Flash is a multimedia technology developed specifically for the internet. Flash allows you to put complex, interactive animation's, movies, or sounds on your web pages. The majority of internet users have browsers, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Netscape Navigator, that already have Flash capabilities built in. For users with high speed internet, websites with Flash are more exciting and compelling to visit.

Why Aren't All Websites Made With Flash?

There are several drawbacks to Flash websites. First, search engines can not fully index the content; and second, users with slower internet connections have to wait longer to load the pages. Finally, Flash content takes more time and expertise to prepare, thus, it costs more.

If you are considering building a site with Flash some things to consider are: your target audience, the speed of their internet connections, and how you intend to promote your website. If your target audience includes dial-up users, or you expect to have traffic directed from search engines, then it is highly recommended to build your site with a non-Flash version, or that you build Flash content in only selected areas of your site.
